The Time is Now!

Thanks again so much to Jessica Byrd for coming and speaking to the club about what Organizing for America is doing to help President Obama in the fight for fair healthcare. It’s wonderful to see how everyday people are working hard to help the President push his agenda.

Just to recap tonight’s meeting:

The College Democrats along with the Young Democrats of St. Louis will be attending a watch party for the President’s speech to a joint session of congress. The watch party is at the Royale on Kingshighway. The College Dems will be meeting at the Clock Tower at 6:30 and carpooling in order to make the speech at 7 o’clock.

Also, there will be no meeting next Tuesday. The Great Issues Committee is hosting a speech by former Mexican President Vicente Fox. It should be very interesting and we highly recommend you attend.

As always, be sure to check out our facebook page, facebook group, and our twitter feed!

What’s the Deal with Health Care?

There is a lot of stuff getting thrown around the Health Care debate right now.  Making sense of it all can be challenging.  The simplest questions (Why do we need reform? How will it affect me?) are not getting answered.

Fear not!

The SLU College Democrats will be answering all your questions at our meeting this Tuesday (9/8).  Stop by Beracha Hall Room 221 at 7 p.m. and our guest speaker, Jessica Byrd of Organizing for America, will break it down for you!

Organizing for America

Happy Days Are Here Again!

After eight years of George W. Bush’s failed presidency, we finally have a Democrat in the White House! Not just any Democrat, but one who has demonstrated a deep understanding of the beliefs and aspirations of our generation. Barack Obama captured our imaginations, and as a result, we turned out in record numbers in support of his campaign.

At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the Liberal Lion roared, “this November the torch will be passed again to a new generation of Americans, so with Barack Obama and for you and for me, our country will be committed to his cause. The work begins anew. The hope rises again. And the dream lives on.”

As we celebrate our achievements, we must remember that they come with incredible responsibility. We cannot allow our torch to be extinguished by pessimism and complacency. Now is the time to take up the torch and run with it.

The SLU College Democrats are committed to supporting the change our country needs, and with your help, we can make the dream a reality.
