College Democrats Meeting on Tuesday! (CANCELLED)

Tuesday’s meeting has been cancelled due to severe weather. The Young Democrats of Saint Louis have cancelled tonight’s meeting as well.

We will have our regular meeting on Tuesday (2/1) in the Busch Student Center Senate Chambers at 7pm. This is an important meeting to attend as we will be discussing plans for the semester as well as electing new leadership.

Also, the Young Democrats of Saint Louis will hold a membership meeting at 7pm tomorrow (1/31) at Maggie O’Brien’s. Check out the Facebook Event for the full meeting agenda, which includes updates on the Saint Louis bid for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

State of the Union 2011: Winning the Future

State of the Union Tuesday!

Welcome back!

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, January 25th at 7:45pm in the Busch Student Center Senate Chambers. We will watch President Obama deliver the State of the Union at 8pm.

Also, the following is from The Campaign for Local Control, and is a great opportunity for College Democrats:

The Campaign for Local Control is holding a lobby day next Wednesday
Jan 26 in Jefferson City. We are providing the buses for
transportation and lunch.

We need volunteers that can walk the halls of the Capitol and talk to
State Legislators asking for their support on Local Control. Talking
points and names of state legislators to talk too will be given out.

We will leave St. Louis at 8am from various locations that have yet to
be decided. We will return after the Senate Hearing around 3pm.

Local Control is an issue that has plauged St. Louis for over 150
years. During the civil war the Confederate leaning State Legislature
feared that the Union leaning cities of St. Louis and Kansas City
would unite thier armies and over throw the State Government. So the
power to control the police dept was taken away and never given back.
STL and KC ARE THE ONLY TWO POLICE DEPTS IN THE US THAT ARE CONTROLED
THIS WAY!

We are mounting the largest effort in 150 years to change this out
dated law. We need your help down in Jefferson City next Wednesday.
